PS/MS 183Q: Good Things Happen Here

Featuring Art Direction by Raissa Oliveira Da Silva (Queens 2025)

We had the pleasure of returning to PS/MS 183Q for the tenth consecutive year, thanks to the Art a Catalyst for Change grant from the NYC Council and Council Member Selvana Brooks-Powers. This year’s program was led by Raissa Oliveira Da Silva and explored the theme of, “Good Things Happen Here,” with students at the school’s Harriman SONYC After School Program.

Informing the design were school values of mindfulness, working together, and zen. Students helped interpret these ideas visually, drawing colorful pictures of people meditating, a young girl listening to music, and a child looking into the virtual world. They also helped paint the wall, including details that remain in the final production of the mural. A ribbon cutting celebrating their hard work completed the experience. One student during the ceremonies stated the best part of the mural process was creating art with her friends.
