The Art Office of the NYC Department of Education posted their recap of Thrive Collective and Projectivity’s basketball court beautification at the Bronx High School for Visual Arts and P.S. 56 – The Harry Eichler School in Queens, on YouTube.

In Spring 2024, the Arts Office of the NYC Department of Education selected Thrive Collective and our partners Projectivity and JM Custom Studios to makeover three public school basketball courts in The Bronx, Queens, and Staten Island.

Longtime Thrive collaborators and iconic artists, Crash and Daze, designed the court’s mural at Bronx High School for Visual Arts. The design includes the school’s bear mascot and interprets its motto: “In everything we DO, we PROSPER.” The PROSPER acronym reflects the school’s core values: Perseverance, Responsibility, Ownership (If it’s to be, it’s up to me!), Service (Leave the world better than you found it.), Perspective, Elevate, and Reflection.

In Queens, the students gravitated toward the phrase “grit” to represent their “resilience” and “integrity.” The video showcases Thrive’s mission to bring students’ perspectives and creativity to the forefront. At each school, the muralists, directors, and students all brainstorm ideas and the meaning behind the images portrayed. Renowned muralists Queen Andrea and Shiro1 painted the P.S. 56 court.
