HEALING THROUGH HIP HOP AT BMCC

Healing Through Hip Hop: RHYME x BMCC.

This past semester, Thrive Collective had the incredible opportunity to partner with Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) to bring our R.H.Y.M.E. (Rhymes Help Young Minds Excel) program to life on campus. Through weekly workshops, students met with Thrive’s teaching artists Godfrey Moye and Jason Roberts to explore hip hop as a powerful tool for therapy, storytelling, and creative expression.

Over the course of the semester, the RHYME sessions became a safe and inspiring space for students to process life experiences, build community, and develop their voices as artists. Whether through writing bars, freestyling, or beat-making, each student brought their unique energy and perspective to the mic. The program culminated in a student-led showcase held at BMCC — a celebration of growth, vulnerability, and artistic talent. From spoken word to original tracks, the performances reflected the deep work and creativity that flourished throughout the semester. 🎥 Check out the recap video by Eric Mason capturing the energy and impact of the day.
