Mentoring Youth Leadership (MYL) Thrives in NYC Through Thrive Collective & Leadership Foundations Partnership
This year Thrive Collective and Leadership Foundations teamed up to bring Mentoring Youth Leadership (MYL) programming to three NYC communities—impacting youth and families through the power of mentoring, creativity, and connection.
In collaboration with BronxConnect RTG North, Cornerstone Academy for Social Action, and PS 244 — The Active Learning Elementary School (TALES), the MYL initiative empowered students through hands-on experiences and positive relationship-building.
At RTG North and Cornerstone Academy, mentees engaged in R.H.Y.M.E. (Rhymes Help Young Minds Excel), a music mentoring program guided by mentors Randy Mason and Godfrey Moye, where young voices were amplified through rhythm and lyrical expression. Meanwhile, at TALES, students participated in the Story Tellers After School Program, led by teacher and mentor Angela Valco, where storytelling became a tool for self-discovery and confidence.
Throughout the MYL programming, youth explored key themes from Positive Youth Development and the Developmental Assets Framework—a research-based guide identifying 40 essential experiences and qualities that help youth grow into caring, responsible, and productive adults.
Mentees also enjoyed a wide range of activities including music projects, basketball games, and family engagement events. Together, Thrive Collective and Leadership Foundations are building stronger communities—one young leader at a time.
