R.H.Y.M.E x Speek Lyfe: Summer Hip-Hop Intensive Empowers Youth to “Keep That Energy” at MS 42

Through a vibrant partnership between R.H.Y.M.E. (Rhymes Help Young Minds Excel) and Speek Lyfe, students at MS 42 in Queens NYC came together for a dynamic Summer Hip-Hop Music and Mentoring Intensive — a one-of-a-kind experience that combined the power of music, mentorship, and self-expression.

Over several weeks, students engaged with the art of rap, communication, public speaking, creative writing, and self-expression under the guidance of mentors Coach L and Coach P. These two seasoned artists and educators brought their passion, wisdom, and encouragement into every session, helping young people tap into their authentic voices.

The goal was simple but profound: empower youth to tell their stories, develop their voices, and build confidence through the culture and creativity of hip-hop.

The program reached its finale with the creation of an original student song titled “Keep That Energy.” Through their lyrics, students spoke boldly about the challenges they’ve faced and how they’ve learned to overcome them with tenacity, confidence, and hope.

R.H.Y.M.E and Speek Lyfe are proud to celebrate the brilliance, bravery, and boundless potential of these young artists. The mic was passed, and they made sure their voices were heard.

Stay tuned. The next generation is already speaking life into the future — one rhyme at a time.

Special thanks to NY City Council member Selvena N. Brooks-Powers, Art a Catalyst for Change initiative for making this project possible.
