Over the course of 12 weeks, High School students at ps 371 Lillian Rashkis participated in R.H.Y.M.E. (Rhymes Help Young Minds Excel) an initiative by Thrive Collective that uses hip hop music and mentoring to empower youth. Led by teaching artists Jason Roberts and Kareem Caines. The program invited students to explore beats, rhymes, and creative expression as tools for health, wellness, and personal growth.

Through hands-on workshops, participants developed original lyrics for a song titled “Never Give Up” where they wrote about keeping the faith, persevering, and resilience. Students learned about music production, and collaborated to create a unique student-produced song and music video. In addition to artistic skills, the program emphasized essential life skills such as communication, collaboration, goal-setting, and pursuing a shared vision.

The R.H.Y.M.E. program offered students a powerful platform to express themselves, connect with their peers, and discover how art can be a meaningful part of their lives and futures.
