BMCC BREAKTHROUGH
R.H.Y.M.E | BMCC Counseling Department & UMLA, The Urban Male Leadership Academy
BMCC students explored Hip Hop and the creative arts as an alternative to traditional talk therapy twice a week for 10 weeks as they worked collaboratively to produce “Breakthrough” an original song, cover art and music video based on the theme freedom. Healing Through The Creative Arts was led by R.H.Y.M.E teaching artists JSWISS, Caleb Giles and BMCC student Baz Diaby – who participated in previous BMCC Rhyme semesters as a student and is now a paid RHYME intern- a journey highlighting his own breakthrough as an artist.
“Breakthrough” is an original song written and produced by BMCC students, recorded at the Department of Education Arts Hub Music Studio. The music video was shot by Eric Mason with assistance by Sydney Tirado – Thrive Collective Barnabas Fellow.
