IS 131 Albert Einstein School: Galaxy

In the fall of 2024, IS 131 Albert Einstein School commissioned Thrive’s program director Pelumi Ayeni to paint five murals.

The primary mural wraps around a corner near the school’s main office and establishes the theme for the collection: “The Beat of 131.” The design incorporates recognizable neighborhood and cultural features and reflects the vibrancy and diversity of the school. The remaining murals include three sets of double doors and the science classroom, “Galaxy” door. Each set of double doors represents a portal highlighting different focuses within the school:

• “The Arts” celebrates the school’s commitment to theater, fine arts, dance, and music, highlighting the the joy that these art expressions bring.
• “Knowledge is Power” incorporates the IS 131 Albert Einstein logo, an electron, while highlighting different fields of study. The boy in the center is surrounded by interconnected educational elements that integrate within the school.
• “In Diversity there is Beauty and Strength “  highlights different cultures, people,  foods, and places embodied within the school community.

The IS 131 Albert Einstein School shares a campus with Soundview Academy for Culture and Scholarship.
