PS 12X: Grow Forever

PSX 012 is a wonderful school catering to middle and high school special needs youth. The principal, staff, and students collaborated on two murals celebrating the special care and beauty they all bring to the school community. Both murals, “Just the Way You Are” and “Grow Forever,” consist of uplifting words and positive affirmations.

The first mural brings a relaxing uplifting energy into the cafeteria of the school. This design brings nature into the building showing a cityscape with clouds and stars and a sun rising. The quotes that fill the sky are telling the students that they should reach for the stars, and always believe in themselves. The sun in the middle is the largest quote reminding the students they are amazing the way that they are. It’s important for these students to know that their hardships and disabilities make them even more unique and beautiful and they are loved for who they are.

The second mural transforms the hallway to the main office of the school. The colors, trees, and flowers bring natural beauty into the building as well as reflect the community at the school. The bulletin board in the middle of the mural provides space for regular updates and announcements. The quotes, “Thank you for making a difference in a child’s life everyday” and “Teachers plant seeds that grow forever,” acknowledge the dedication and hard work that the staff and teachers put into educating and caring for their students, while also reminding them what it means to be a teacher at PS 12X: “Teach, Encourage, Instruct, Mentor, Praise, Influence, Guide, Inspire.”
