Artist May Bukowski and students from Star Academy celebrate the cultural diversity of Manhattan’s Lower East Side, including artists Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring. The principal wanted to highlight the artists, culture, and beauty that makes up the community, drawing inspiration from local artists, music, clothing, and colorful dancing. Even a representation of Tompkins Square Park finds its way into the mural to bring familiarity to neighborhood children.
