JHS 127 BE YOURSELF
JHS 127 x R.H.Y.M.E powered by Council Member Amanda Farías
We are proud to present “Be Yourself,” an original song and music video created by students from JHS 127 in the Bronx.
The song’s message celebrates individuality, reminding us that every person is uniquely and wonderfully made, and that staying true to yourself is far more meaningful than blindly following trends. Toward the end of the song, students deliver a powerful public service announcement, encouraging their peers to reflect on the devastating impact of violence and to seek positive, peaceful ways to resolve conflict. It is a timely and important message from Bronx youth.
Over the course of 12 weeks, students explored the art of rap, lyric writing, and music production under the guidance of professional recording artists and teaching artists JSWISS and Cellus Hamilton. Their journey culminated in this original student-led project, Be Yourself.
A special thank-you goes to the staff and students of JHS 127, as well as Council Member Amanda Farías, whose support helped make this project possible.
The music video was filmed and edited by Eric Mason.
