LES, Help Design a Mural

NYC Public Realm Community Info Session: 11/17/25

LES, Transform this Block and Help Design a Public Realm Mural

  • 0

Thrive Collective has received a 2026 Public Realm grant from the NYC Department of Small Business Services to beautify a large wall in the Lower East Side. Thrive’s Murals Art Director Marissa Molina will lead the project with us.

We will host a community gathering at the Lower East Side/Chinatown Family Enrichment Center to help design the mural on November 17 at 6PM. Join us to learn more and share ideas for this upcoming mural. Light refreshments will be served. RSVP your attendance below. If you cannot attend, please feel free to leave ONLINE FEEDBACK.

About the Project

The building at the corner of 6th Street and Avenue C sits at the geographic center of both the Alphabet City section of the East Village, and the cultural hub of Avenue C, renamed “Loisaida Avenue” in honor of the neighborhood’s distinctly Nuyorican heritage coined by poet Bimbo Rivas. Surrounded by 70 businesses and vacant storefronts along Avenue C, and almost 1,900 storefronts in the surrounding East Village Commercial District, the building has been chronically and heavily vandalized since the unrest of the summer of 2020.

Homegrown in the Lower East Side

Thrive Collective grows from a movement started in 1994 by neighborhood teens in the basement of a building on 6th Street, half a block from Loisaida Avenue. It migrated to a NYCHA building on 10th Street two years later, and PS 34 on 12th Street with our first mural in 2007. Since then, we have completed nearly fifty murals in the neighborhood and 750 nationwide, including more than thirty on or within one block of Avenue C. Loisaida remains home. Both our offices on 10th Street and our flagship school  on 12th Street, are half a block from Loisaida Avenue.
