CPC Beacon x IS 220K: Time Capsule

The Chinese American Planning Council invited Thrive to collaborate with their IS 220 Beacon program to celebrate the 100th year anniversary of the John Pershing Middle School. Veteran Thrive teaching artist Michela Muserra worked with the students to portray a visual “Time Capsule” for children who will attend the school in another 100 years.

The mural program took place after school, and included students from the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. Among the fun student ideas incorporated in the design include a friendly and encouraging alien in a UFO, flowers painted exclusively by the students, construction motifs, and one student’s favorite “Algebralians.” The students’ ideas really got to shine. The principal, Mr. Dempster, was extremely enthusiastic and supportive, and expressed a desire to work with Thrive again.
